This is Beale Street which, since the early 1900s has been filled with restaurants, shops and businesses owned by African Americans. It's pretty touristy these days, but apparently it's still a good place to hear blues and eat unhealthy food. There were (as nearly everywhere in Memphis) a few too many Elvis knick-knacks for my taste. Still, it looked like the kind of place where you could drink a beer at eleven in the afternoon without raising any eyebrows. And so I did.
