34th Street and 8th Avenue
The tallest building in New York (after the demise of the Twin Towers), the Empire State Building is the second tallest in the US. The Art Deco skyscraper was built in 1931 and replaced the gorgeous Waldorf Hotel. The colors of the floodlights on the upper floors change according to a fixed yearly schedule. On this day they are illuminated in blue and white for United Nations Day.
