Brooklyn Industries
Night shot of the Brooklyn Industries clothing store at the corner of 5th Avenue and Union Street in Park Slope, across the street from my apartment.
This shot shows 5th Avenue which, unknown to most current Slope residents, used to be covered by an elevated railroad which connected with the subway complex at Atlantic and Pacific to the north. The Brooklyn Union Elevated Railroad, as it was called, opened in 1889 and closed in the 1940s. (The 4th Avenue subway, which opened in 1914, seems to have killed the El.) 5th Avenue El stops in Park Slope included: St Marks Street, Union Street, 3rd Street, 9th Street, and 16th Street.
